Thinking about Rule of the Bone #5

The more power you’ve got
the more you’re able to do the right thing
which is whatever you can get away with
and at that point in my life I had no power whatsoever,
I couldn’t get away with anything
so I had to do the wrong thing
and tell the truth.
from Rule of the Bone, "Presumed Dead" chapter 5, page 73

Is Chappie right? Give and explain your answer in the comment box below.

  1. I think Chappie isnt right because it doesnt matter if he has power or not he still couldve gotten away with it if he had enough confidence, but he also did the right thing and told the truth.

  2. #5 in a way chappie is right. He had a better life living with his mom and step dad. now hes sleeping on a bus. he used to go to school. now he doesn't. He used to do all good things. He used to be a better kid than he was before, now hes doing everything wrong.

I think chappie is trying to say he has no power so he couldn’t do the right thing and get away with it so instead chappie has done the wrong thing and and no needs to tell the truth.

  6. Chappie is right, because he doesn't have power anymore, he cant get away with anything. When he was living with his Mom he could get away with little things as long as he was good, and he had power then. So basically hes right. He doesn't have power, and he feels like he "needs" to do the wrong thing. So at the same time hes not fully correct, because he doesn't need to be bad.

  9. I think Chappie is right, because he saved his friends life. He was doing wrong hanging with the biker, and finally did something right by saving his friend, and getting them both away from the bikers.

  12. I think Chappie has a point but depending who is reading what he says can be inturprited diffrerently. I he is saying since he does not live at home he cant get away what somethings he use to because he is not treated as a kid now because he is on his own. Along from him getting caught for stealing or anything he does is all on him not because he does not have the power. Everyone has the power to do or not do something or succeed or fail. Its the magic of our right to choice and the magic of trial and error.
